Today’s picture is more of a snapshot of a typical Monday night, rather than an artistic photo. For the past month or so, I have been going to Eddie’s Attic in Decatur for open mic night. I absolutely love this place! The tickets are cheap, the atmosphere is cozy, and the music is great (mostly).
It’s exciting to see new artists trying to “make it”, and becoming a part of their journey. It’s also a great opportunity to pick up some new music that would be hard to find otherwise. Tonight, Small Houses (http://www.smallhousessing.com/) was the winner, and he totally deserved it. Great guy, great music.

Today was a fun day.
The past few days have been photos of opportunity and I haven’t really spent much time trying to get good shots. So today, I decided to look for a neat place to go shoot. Of the many choices in and around Atlanta, I decided on Centennial Olympic Park. Dragging Will along for some company, we headed downtown.
I love going into the city. There’s something about all the rusty, broken down, brick buildings contrasting against the gigantic, glass windowed, skyscrapers that fascinates me. I could spend hours, upon hours wandering the streets of downtown. There are so many photos waiting to be taken, and there is inspiration around every corner. Of course, with every good thing there is a bad thing, right? That bad thing in this situation would be parking…and traffic…but mostly parking. :)
Luckily, after circling the park only once, we found a lot that didn’t charge too much. I was actually quite surprised with how crowed the park was…until I found out today was the final for the World Cup. Walking around, I was not too inspired. Maybe it was all the people, or the heat, but either way I wasn’t getting the shots I’d hoped for.
We decided to go check out the Ferris wheel we had walked by on the way into the park. Great idea. It was both scary and exciting, and I got a bunch of great pictures. It’s always interesting seeing something from a new perspective. I noticed a bunch of intriguing looking areas that I want to check out, and daydreamed about staying on the top floor of an expensive hotel. It was a very cool experience. I’m excited to go up again at nighttime, and see the city lights glowing against the dark night sky.

This was the view I saw after a 3 mile walk today. I decided to walk Leeloo (older husky) and followed the trail Niki has been taking recently. It’s quite a nice walk, with plenty of trees and walkways. I was lucky this time too. When I got back to the car, I got the joy of seeing a train go by.
I LOVE trains. :)
I can’t help it. I know I may sound like a 9 year old boy, but I do. I love trains. I will patiently wait for them in traffic…holler “Train!” whenever I hear one…and always watch them as they roll on by. When I turned around to head back to the car and go home, I saw this view and snapped a few pictures. I figured if I didn’t get a good picture of the train, this would definitely work.
I’m actually pretty pleased with this shot. Normally, I think sky pictures are rather generic and ho-hum. This one really catches my eye, though. I love how the trees are blacked out and sort of frame the large puffy cloud. Of course, the sun rays are a nice added bonus. :)

Today was an interesting day. It started out rather slow (typical of the past few weeks). I was searching around WordPress, and stumbled upon a fantastic post http://yourinnerart.wordpress.com/2014/07/09/why-you-might-think-youre-not-creative/. I connected with this post in so many ways, and it inspired me to truly love my creative self. I’ve always had trouble believing that I’m a creative individual. Sure, I have my moments, but overall I doubt myself. Until recently that is.
Lately, I’ve been loving my creativity and trying to express it with both my photography and this blog. I’m realizing that it’s more important to enjoy the process of creating than the stress of creating something “amazing”. I may not be Kandinsky or Rilke, but I AM a creative individual.
I am Brandi, and I love to create. If you don’t like what I create, that’s fine. Everyone has different likes/dislikes, and I can never make everyone happy. That has been a very hard thing for me to realize, but understanding this is helping me grow as a creative spirit. Connecting with people that do enjoy my work, inspires me even more. These people push me and motivate me to continue doing what I love. To those people, Thank You!
My hope for the many days to follow, is that I remember these moments of clarity. That I don’t ever underestimate the power of letting go…being free to express whatever emotions overcome me…ignoring that stupid voice in the back of my head that doubts my creativity. I hope that I always consider myself a creative individual. One who is not afraid of what other people think, and instead creates for herself.

Pretty quiet day around here today.
I stayed up til 4 am last night, which led to me sleeping in until noon. I didn’t have any plans today, and I woke up with a terrible headache. Therefore, I only took a couple pictures. This picture is interesting to me. It’s very different than the other pictures I’ve been taking lately.
Side note: I was organizing my Flickr page today and realized that my last attempt at a 365 project only lasted 26 days. So, YAY! I’ve already surpassed that attempt. Hopefully, I’ll make it the whole way this time!
Fingers crossed…

Gonna just go ahead a say it…I kinda phoned in today’s picture. I was getting ready to leave school tonight (around 8:00 pm) and realized I hadn’t taken a picture today. Crap! If it gets dark, my options get really diminished because I’m not working with a flash right now. I started wandering the halls again, and ran into a bulletin board framed in these patches. Ta-Da! :) Done!
Some other random thoughts of the day:
I’m really enjoying this creative side of me. I used to be really opposed to digital photography, (“Film or nothing!”) but I gotta give it credit now. I’m able to take HUNDREDS of pictures a day if I wish vs. worrying about the cost of developing my film.
Down side to all this…organization. Seriously. I’ve spent hours, and I mean HOURS, trying to figure out the best way to organize all the photos I’ve been taking. Add to that the constant updates to Facebook, Flickr, and now my blog.
I hope I don’t sound like I’m complaining. I don’t mean to. It’s just…time consuming. Some of it I really enjoy, while some of it is just work. I’m really enjoying the creative side of digitally altering my photos. I’ve created some really dramatic, off the wall pictures, and I love it! :)
Thanks again for joining me in this journey. I started this blog for myself, but I’m really enjoying the fact that others like it too! :)
So thank you.

I decided to play with an abstract photo for today. I really like the textures and vibrant colors of this one.
For the past month or so, I have been going to Open Mic Night @ Eddie’s Attic every Monday night. Today was no exception. :) I have also noticed that there seems to be a lot of neat things around that place, and have been wanting to go early and take some pictures. After walking around for a bit, I soon realized this area is downtown Decatur. So to answer my earlier noted interest…YES!…there are a lot of neat things here.
I got some really interesting shots today, and this one is no exception.
Good pictures, good music, goodnight!

I decided to take a trip to Jones Bridge Park today in hopes of getting some inspiration from the good ole Chattahoochee. I did…and didn’t. I was thinking that there would be more of an opportunity to photograph interesting things at this park…but I seemed stumped. It may be that it was a Sunday afternoon and the park was VERY full. It may be that I was not properly dressed to get up close and personal with the river. It may be some underlying apprehension to push myself into uncomfortable situations to get a good shot. Not sure.
Either way, it was hot and I didn’t feel like I was getting what I wanted so I left and headed to a place I knew I would get something I liked. I went back to The Forum where I had taken some great flower shots recently. Success. This brightened my spirit and I ended the evening with some delicious Chipotle. Yum!
The funny part of today’s adventure was that I actually did get some good shots at Jones Bridge Park. My photo of the day came from there! :) Along with some others that I’d love to alter and see what I can get. It’s all a matter of perspective I suppose.

Another day, another picture. Today I hung out with some old TSS friends. After sitting inside for a while I decided to take a moment and be anti-social. I had noticed a neat looking wind sculpture in the yard when I got to the house. Stepping outside I snapped some pictures at different angles. Pretty neat looking but kinda hard to photograph. :) There was this crazy white square structure in the background that kept distracting my focal point.
Thinking about it now…I should of tried taking a picture from the other side of the thing. Ah well. I like the balance of this shot.
