Today’s picture is more of a snapshot of a typical Monday night, rather than an artistic photo. For the past month or so, I have been going to Eddie’s Attic in Decatur for open mic night. I absolutely love this place! The tickets are cheap, the atmosphere is cozy, and the music is great (mostly).
It’s exciting to see new artists trying to “make it”, and becoming a part of their journey. It’s also a great opportunity to pick up some new music that would be hard to find otherwise. Tonight, Small Houses (http://www.smallhousessing.com/) was the winner, and he totally deserved it. Great guy, great music.

I couldn’t agree more! We’ve seen so much talent in such a short amount of time, and Small Houses was no exception. I never catch all of his lyrics – his vocal delivery is beautifully slurred, almost like an impressionist painting, but all the feelings come across loud and clear. His guitar playing is idiosyncratic, going from strumming, clanging chords, to delicate, almost fragile note picking the next measure. He gets better every time we see him, from song to song, performance to performance, and he’s a helluva nice guy, too. Love this pic – a reminder of another great night at the Attic. (special mention to the Jackie Myers Band – they were great, too. ;-))
