Year 2/Day 195

Year 2 - Day 195

One thing I love about cooking with fresh fruits and veggies is how colorful everything is.  It’s hard to stop taking pictures so I can actually cook the stuff.

Homework and healthy choices.

Year 2/Day 188

Year 2 - Day 188

Well, one thing I didn’t think about was the amount of dishes that weekly prepping creates…I’m talking about ALL the dishes are dirty!  Luckily I don’t mind washing dishes (normally).  Also, I’m feeling very grateful for this wonderfully open kitchen we have.  It makes everything much easier.

Guess I better buy some more soap!

Year 2 - Day 186

Meal plan, week 1

I’m getting back on the healthy train.  I had good results a while ago when my mum and I meal prepped for the week, so I’m going to try that again.  I’ve found that if I have healthy food already made and waiting it’s harder to eat crap.  For a couple of reasons.  I like “healthy” food, but I don’t always like to cook.  Plus, if it’s already made I have a hard time letting it go to waste.  That’s money just getting thrown away…and I don’t like that!  :)

Year 2/Day 121

Those who know me, know I’ve been going to the gym (well, trying to…).  I understand this may not be a big deal to most…but I think it’s amazing that when I first started going back to the gym 3 months ago it took me eight minutes to complete the quarter mile.  Today I was able to do it in 2 minutes and 58 seconds!!  Yay!!

Year 2/Day 96

Year 2 - Day 96

I’ve been doing really well trying to eat better, and I actually like going to the gym now (eeks…).  It’s interesting how “bad” some foods are when you take a moment and really look at them from a macro-nutrient level.  No more fast food for me thanks.  My whole day is blown in just one meal!

It’s also interesting how some “good” foods are broken down differently than you’d expect. (Example: hard boiled eggs are a good source of protein, but are rather high in fats.  Good fats, but still fats.)  I am enjoying the fact that the healthier I eat, the more healthy I want to continue eating.  Now don’t get me wrong, there are days when I just want a big bowl of cheesy pasta and ice cream and french fries and…you get it.  But on average, I’m good.

Today I did it.  I committed to joining the gym.  Blah.

I gotta do this thing and get back on track.  I have so much stress going on now, I need to watch my health.

First step – check!

You are what you eat

Today I saw a nutritionist.  It’s not that I don’t know how to eat healthy, it’s that I just don’t do it.

My hope is that by seeing someone regularly, I will feel accountable and stick to a better eating routine.

The good news was that I didn’t have a copay today.  (Yay preventative care!)  This made it possible to buy some delicous, healthy food.  Aldi is the best place I’ve found to get produce for a decent price.  Now…to just eat it!
